Report of Eissa's presentation

On Tuesday, 28th May 2013, Eissa Sultan Alblooshi at 8:40a.m had his turn in presenting.  Mr. Hedley and some of the students were there. His presentation was about social networking. He pointed out how social networking websites connect you with other people who share the same interests as you. He then showed us a list of countries and the percentage of users in each of the listed countries; they were really high. Eissa told us that it is not us talking in these social networking websites, but instead our fingers do. On the internet it’s really easy to fake who you are and become someone else. There are lots of social networking websites; each one is different from how it is designed, or what you can share with people in it. Even though these websites connect people, they can also cause discord. People share rumors about a person they don’t like, either for fun or just because he is different looking. Eissa told us in his presentation about a girl who has a rare disease that caused her not to lose weight. Students in her school would make fun and say rumors about her. Another thing about social networking is that it is a waste of time. People sit hours on their computers or phones looking at the screen talking to people and sharing useless stuff. Even though these websites are bad, that doesn't mean there isn't a positive side to them. People can use them to share good knowledge and know about the world, rather than talking behind the ruler of your country or wasting your time with nothingness.

Report about Eissa's presentation.

On Wednesday 8th of May, at 12:45 Eissa Sultan Alblooshi gave a small presentation to the class and Mr. Hedley about the ice hockey world championship. He was talking about the subject as a person who knows what he’s talking about. Eissa started his presentation by talking about the equipment that an ice hockey player would wear during the match. They wear lots of stuff for protection. He also pointed out how different is a field player from a goal keeper; they wear different stuff and use different sticks. Eissa then showed us a view from the top of the ice hockey field and where each player’s position in the match is.  After that, he showed us some of his pictures when he’s in the game field; he’s a goal keeper. He mentioned some of the great games that they have played and won, also the ones where they have lost. They were traveling the globe because they have games in different places other than the UAE. Eissa also told us about their trip to Bulgaria where they had a match over there. It was really snowy over there, streets and cars were covered with snow, but then the snow started to decrease. They had fun over there; they played with the snow and fought using snow balls; they even went skiing on one of Bulgaria’s mountains. The mountain was really crowded with people who went over there for skiing. He then showed us a picture of one of the largest churches in the world, but he didn't know the name of that church. After that, Eissa finished presenting and asked his classmates if they had any questions to ask.

Meeting reflection

We are three students from class CLG. We’ve set the meeting in room J12 on Tuesday 19th March 2013 at 1:00 p.m. Rashed Alremeithi, H00247559, as chairman started the meeting. We were discussing the problem of traffic in Abu Dhabi, which is a problem in a city filled with life. Faris Alshamsi, H00202586, talked about some factors that result some streets to have more traffic than other streets. He mentioned e.g. how some streets are small, and cars pass through them all the time, or try to due to traffic. Accidents are also part of this problem. When people drive into an accident area they slow down the movement of the street traffic. Even though there aren’t a lot of accidents, they are still a part in slowing down the street traffic. Faris also mentioned how there are lots of cars, people leaving at the same time of work, and how some people drive below the street speed. Abdulrahman Aljunaibi, H00237389 made some suggestions and solutions to reduce the traffic, such as enlarging the existing roads, building a metro, providing lane for public transportation only, and applying Salik system in Abu Dhabi. Rashed also suggested that sharing a car between people can reduce traffic, like three people would use one car to go to work and back.

Rashed opened and closed the meeting in a good way. The other two members participated and shared their suggestions and what they think of the problem. Everyone was aware of what they were talking about and did a good job.

Changing the existing roads
This is has been done in a few roads, and it takes a long time to complete. It’s an efficient way though. We can increase the size of the streets that are common to have traffic in them every day. There are also some streets that are oversized, so we can try to decrease the size of a street, and increase another one.

Make people use public transport
We shouldn’t focus on just bringing buses. We have to build a metro in Abu Dhabi, just like the one in Dubai. It’s going to be able to get people to all places around the city. The more people use the metro, the less people on the road and so less traffic too.

Provide exclusive lanes for public transportation
As for the remaining buses, we shouldn’t sell them, but we should keep them and provide a lane that’s only for public transportation vehicles. If we don’t do that, public transportation vehicles will be roaming the street, and due to their big size they will block other cars and result in more traffic.

Provide Salik system in Abu Dhabi
Applying Salik system and bringing it to Abu Dhabi can be another solution for the traffic. Main roads of Abu Dhabi will require any car that goes through it to have a Salik card. Since Salik requires money, we can predict that fewer cars will be on that road.
-----
1- Enlarging the roads is a good idea, but it’s going to take a long time to change every road.
2- Building a metro is a good idea and a fast way of travel. It costs lots of money and time.
3- The exclusive lanes for public transportation are related to enlarging the roads. This is going to cost a lot of money.
4- Applying strict rules like Salik can be a good way to ensure that fewer people will be going on the street in their cars.
